The police say a woman was taken into custody after 11 pounds of cocaine was found in her possession at the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) in Kingston yesterday.

The police say about 11:44 yesterday morning, the 61-year-old woman was in the process of checking in at the airport, when lawmen requested a search of her property.

She reportedly refused and was taken to a screening room where she later admitted to the Police that she was in possession of cocaine.

She was searched and seven parcels containing the illicit drugs were allegedly found in her clothing.

The police say she was subsequently arrested.

The identity of the woman is being withheld pending further investigations.
