Human rights lobby group Jamaicans For Justice (JFJ) is also raising issue with the length of time the inmates had been at the Savanna-la-Mar police lock-up.

Board Member, Susan Goffe insists that inmates should not be held at these facilities indefinitely.

She says these inmates should be taken to a remand centre which is more suitable for long term care and treatment.

Goffe also notes that since these inmates are awaiting trial they are presumed innocent until proven guilty and have certain basic rights.

She says as a result it is wrong to keep them in police lock-ups indefinitely.
