The tourism ministry is to redevelop the roadway from Mountain View Ave to the Norman Manley Airport in Kingston into an elegant corridor.

Tourism Minister Wykeham McNeill says the designs for the new roadway are to be ready by February next year. He did not reveal the projected cost of the project.

McNeill made the announcement yesterday during a tour of the area. The tourism minister was among members of parliament, Phillip Paulwell and Julian Robinson, through whose constituencies the corridor runs; Mayor of Kingston Angella Brown Burke and chief executive officer of the National Works Agency, E.G. Hunter.

McNeill says its often forgotten that the capital city is also a resort area.

The scope of the project will include the refurbishment and installation of sidewalks; overlaying of the roadway, landscaping and lighting of the corridor. The enhancement of the roadway is expected to provide employment for surrounding communities.
