The People's National Party's Dwayne Vaz was this morning sworn-in as the Member of Parliament for Central Westmoreland.

At 11:32 a.m., Vaz took the Oath of Allegiance to applause from members on both sides of the political divide.

The brief ceremony was coloured by hearty laughter and kisses on the young MP's cheeks from Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller.

Cheered on by Government MPs, Vaz then proceeded to greet his colleagues on the Opposition benches.

"Leader, leader!" the government members shouted as Vaz shook Audley Shaw's hand.

Opposition Leader Andrew Holness was not in the chamber during the ceremony.

Minutes after, MP for West Portland Daryl Vaz entered the chamber and quickly went over to Dwayne and congratulated him.

Said Daryl: "From the moment him win he was a true Vaz".
