NSWMA issues warning to event planners

Published:Friday | December 12, 2014 | 11:27 AM

The National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) is warning party promoters and those who plan to host other kinds of events to ensure adequate measures are put in place to deal with solid waste.

Executive Director of the NSWMA, Jennifer Edwards, says the agency, the police and local authorities will be monitoring the situation.

Edwards notes that there is usually an increase in entertainment events during the festive season.

She points out that waste management is a major challenge for the NSWMA at this time of year.

Edwards says it is therefore important that event planners, whether at home or in a public space, take the proper steps to secure their garbage.

She stresses that this is important to prevent littering of the nation’s streets.
