Education Minister, Ronald Thwaites, says the staff and administration at the University of Technology (UTech) need to demonstrate greater maturity as disputes continue to plague the institution.

Since last September, the staff at the Papine-based institution have staged numerous protests over alleged governance and financial irregularities at UTech.

The protests led to a probe which ended in a report being released in February.

Following that report UTech president Professor Errol Morrison was replaced with Ambassador Burchell Whiteman.

However, despite the changes in leadership and the implementation of several recommendations, the staff unions remain discontent saying enough is not being done to address the concerns.

Thwaites says the unions should allow the process to work, noting that 49 of some 60 recommendations made to improve the university's governance and financial accountability have been implemented.

Last week, UTech staff demonstrated to press their demands for the release of a report from the Jamaica Tertiary Education Commission.
