ATHLETICS: O'Dayne Richards, Kaliese Spencer named JAAA Athletes of the Year

Shot putter O’Dayne Richards and 400-metre hurdler Kaliese Spencer were last night named as the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) Male and Female Athletes of the Year.



The announcement was made at the JAAA/Scotiabank Golden Cleats Awards ceremony at the Terra Nova All-Suite Hotel.



The 25-year-old Richards created history by becoming Jamaica’s first gold medallist in the shot put at the Commonwealth Games, when he heaved a Games and National record 21.61 metre.



Richards also finished second at the Continental Cup.



The 27-year-old Spencer easily won the female award following a sensational season in which she won three major titles.



She won gold medals at the Commonwealth Games and the Continental Cup and also emerged as the Diamond League winner in the 400-metre hurdles.
