Demand receipts for purchases - Consumers Affairs Commission warns

Published:Saturday | December 13, 2014 | 12:08 PM

As the Christmas shopping season moves into high gear, the Consumers Affairs Commission (CAC) is warning Jamaicans to demand receipts for their purchases.

Head of the commission Dolsie Allen says these receipts should have some basic information such as the name of the retailer where an item is purchased, the amount paid, date of purchase and a description of the item.

Speaking during a recent Jamaica Information Service Think Tank, Allen underscored that receipts are critical if a consumer needs to seek redress.

She also noted that very often during high shopping seasons retailers offer bargains where discounts are given, but fail to provide receipts.

Meanwhile, the Consumer Affairs Commission head is appealing to shoppers to be vigilant and to ask questions about refund policies and warranties offered by retailers.
