Burnell Moore CPJ Employee of the Year 2013 continues to develop
After 13 years with Caribbean Producers Jamaica Limited (CPJ), technician Burnell Moore, nabbed a milestone achievement when he was named the 2013 Employee of the Year.
"It came as a total surprise. I knew nothing about it until it was announced at the function, so that tells you how much of a surprise it was," Moore said of his reaction at the time of his achievement.
"I had no idea or any thought that I would have been selected in that light, as my job keeps me on the road 24-7."
Moore explained that as part of his duties for CPJ, he and his fellow technicians go out to different hotels and install or maintain their food-processing equipment.
"We work in the technical department, and our jobs entail being in the hotels where we place the equipment, so we work as service providers in terms of upkeep and preventative maintenance, so it is not like I am in the limelight," said Moore.
"It just tells you how motivated I am; even when working behind the scenes, I still give 100 per cent and more, pretty much consistently. It (my service) was justly rewarded, I would say."
In outlining his own journey with CPJ over the years, Moore explained that he worked in two sectors unrelated to food-processing prior to joining the company in 2001.
"I used to be in the garment industry before I branched off into the information technology sector. I was referred to a job at CPJ even though it was in a different field. I took the opportunity and it has been upward mobility for me ever since. I have no regrets ... it has been fun throughout," Moore said with pride in his voice.
"It (CPJ) is an awesome company. It allows you to express yourself. Mediocre performance is not an option," Moore continued.
"You always have to bring your 'A' game, so that helps to build you ... and it is people-oriented, so for me, it is pretty much a high point."
Recently, Moore was promoted to a supervisory position in CPJ's technical department. For him, that promotion has provided an avenue by which he can grow and develop as an employee.
"I was recently promoted to supervisor for the technical department, and I am excited to grow with the company and to give major input in moving forward," said Moore.
