PRESIDENT OF the St Ann Chamber of Commerce, Oral Heaven, has described 2014 as a challenging year for the business sector in the parish and especially in the resort town of Ocho Rios.

"The year was challenging, there was a number of things happening in Ocho Rios including ships pulling out because of harassment," Heaven noted.

But there were some good moments for Ocho Rios such as the upgrading work being done to the Ocho Rios cruise ship pier and adjoining areas, and Ocho Rios being designated the Caribbean's leading cruise destination by the World Travel Awards.

Also, Mystic Mountain was given a special award by The Gleaner's tourism publication, Hospitality Jamaica, being named leading tourist attraction.

Heaven said, however, that a number of issues will have to be addressed.

"There are a number of things that we have to fight in order to have the business community benefiting from an environment that is conducive to doing business," he told The Gleaner without specifying.
