CLARENDON, Jamaica:

Longville Park Housing Scheme residents have long been crying for a police station to be erected in their community.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Winchroy Buddoo at the annual Christmas Tree roundabout competition last night revealed that the construction would begin on April 1.

"I have been assured that this is the final, final change," he told the large gathering that turned out.

The station was originally slated to begin construction this year, it was pushed back to January 2015, the new date now sees it pushed back yet again.

The community has been experiencing random acts of break in, with residents cry getting louder and louder for the station.

ACP Buddoo calls for revival of old time traditions

ACP Buddo on Sunday urged residents of Longville Park Housing Scheme in Clarendon to embrace the old values that his parents and grandparents used to practice.

"Your theme this year is old time Christmas (referring to the theme given for the annual roundabout competition), we are losing it, not because of economic situation, but this generation has been selfish," he said.

The assistant commissioner urged them to practicing their own traditions once again.

"We have become Americanised in the things we celebrate. We cook big turkey for Thanksgiving more than we celebrate Christmas. We need to stick to our tradition and stick to each other."
