Portmore traffic pile-up after gas spill at Petcom station

KINGSTON, Jamaica:

There was a large gas leak at a Petcom station in Portmore, St Catherine this morning.

It's understood that the incident occurred shortly after five this morning.

According to a source, the gasoline appeared to be leaking from a pump at the station.

"It literally looked like rain … we drove up and thought we were driving through water, but it was gas", he said.

A team from the Fire Brigade was reportedly dispatched to contain the spill which had made its way into the roadway.

The incident has resulted in a major traffic pile up as the police have been diverting traffic from the area.

It's understood that officials from the National Environment and Planning Agency, NEPA and the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management, ODPEM are now on the scene.
