KINGSTON, Jamaica:

National security minister, Peter Bunting, has hailed the security forces for what he describes as a solid year of performance.

In a post on his Facebook page, Bunting shared highlights from the country’s crime statistics.

According to him, there is a 17 per cent reduction in murders and all serious and violent crimes, and a 53 per cent reduction in police fatal shootings.

The national security minister also highlighted other achievements including passage of Anti-Gang legislation, the merger of the Island Special Constabulary Force and the Jamaica Constabulary Force, elimination of use of curfews, inroads against corruption and the implementation of the Unite for Change initiative.

In a video message, Bunting urged Jamaicans to continue supporting the security forces and play their part in keeping Jamaica safe and crime free.
