This year’s Budget will be tabled in the House of Representatives two months earlier than usual.

Finance Minister Dr Peter Phillips has announced that the 2015-2016 Budget will be tabled in the House of Representatives next month.

For decades, the Budget for the new financial year has been presented in April.

Phillips also announced that for the first time the estimate of expenditure, along with the revenue estimates will be tabled simultaneously with the Budget.

He notes that over the years there has been a tendency for Parliament to focus on the expenditure side of the Budget, while leaving the Finance Minister and the Prime Minister to deal with the revenue side.

However, Phillips says that has to change and adds that he would like to see a more meaningful discussion this year about how to finance the budget.
