AUDIO: Golding says Opposition wants to hide truth about West Kingston operation

Justice Minister, Senator Mark Golding, says the Opposition is campaigning against the Tivoli Enquiry because it does not want to tell the truth about the events of May 2010.

The enquiry was established to probe the killing of more than 70 civilians in a police/military operation in Tivoli Gardens under the Bruce Golding administration.

Senator Golding told journalists that his administration is not pursuing the enquiry to score political points.

He blasted the Opposition for calling for the halting of the Enquiry, which started in December.

Golding insisted that the enquiry is important so that Jamaica can know the truth behind the operation to execute an arrest warrant for then Tivoli Gardens strongman, Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke.

The JLP has called for the enquiry to be suspended and the money used to compensate Tivoli residents after it was revealed that the hearing is costing some $300 million.

The majority of the money will go towards salaries for the commissioners and their support staff.
