JUTC against 'loader men' training plans

Published:Wednesday | January 21, 2015 | 9:25 AM

The Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) has come out strongly against plans by a taxi association to train so called 'loader men' in the Kingston Metropolitan Transit Region.

The Jamaica Association of Transport Organiser and Operators (JATOO) had said it planned to launch a programme to regularise the operation of taxi and bus sidemen and women who assist taxi operators in the loading of their vehicles.

However, the JUTC says there is no such legitimate position as 'loader men' and 'loader women' in the public transport sector.

The JUTC says the act of intercepting a pedestrian is illegal.

The bus company is appealing to the police and the Transport Authority to act swiftly to stop the action by JATOO which it says is encouraging illegality and poaching on the JUTC franchise.
