Tourism Minister Dr Wykeham McNiell says the government should be able to give more detail regarding the planned development of an elegant corridor in Kingston by the end of February.

The multimillion-dollar road project will see the development of the Mountain View to Harbour View roadway leading to the Norman Manley International Airport.

Under the project, sidewalks are to be reconstructed, the roadway is to be widened and there are also to be improvements to drainage systems.

Last month the opposition demanded more information on the project, which it deemed overtly political as the corridor is to span the constituencies of People's National Party members of Parliament Julian Robinson and Phillip Paulwell.

The Tourism Minister said the National Works Agency is to submit preliminary designs for the project within the next four to six weeks.

He says once this is done, the government will be in a better position to estimate how much the full project will cost.

Dr McNiell was speaking at a community meeting at the Windward Road Primary School on Tuesday night to discuss the project.
