WESTERN BUREAU:

Mariah Carey's performance was not as thrilling or as engaging as her fans expected, even though she elicited applause across sections of the venue when she sang the first few lines of several of her popular hits.

It was Trey Lorenz who helped to lift the 44 year old's performance when he stepped forward, upon her invitation, to do a number of duets with her including their remake of the Jackson Five's I'll be there and a rendition of the 1970's hit Rock with you.

Carey appeared on stage at approximately 11:35 p.m, after the show resumed following a one-hour break.

She made four dress changes and at intervals stopped to pose for photographs, which she invited her fans to snap of her.

She made her first appearance clad in a black and green gown, and did renditions of Fantasy, Touch my body and Emotions after which she exited the stage and reappeared at 11:55 p.m sporting a full length purple gown singing Baby if you give it to me - her 2002 collaboration with Busta Rymes - Vision of Love, Make it happen and Honey.

By 12:15 a.m she had left the stage to change her dress - a black sequinned number.

In her final change - a short white dress - her last two two songs were You'll always be a part of me and We belong together.
