JMMB Explores the Benefits of Team Building

Jamaica Money Market Brokers (JMMB) Limited recently hosted a Vision Board Workshop at its Haughton Terrace head office, giving its team members an opportunity for self-reflection and developing goals and plans for the future.

According to Simone Dunbar, human resource and administration manager at JMMB, the vision board exercise allowed the participants to create physical representations of what they want in their lives and to maximise their full potential.

"The beginning of the year was selected, as traditionally, this is a time for reflection and people practise making resolutions. We wanted to make use of the opportunity as team members would already be in the frame of mind to revise or set new goals," Dunbar said.

"JMMB recognised that their most valuable asset is the cadre of talented team members and took the decision to focus on one aspect of wellness each quarter, namely financial, relationship, physical or purpose, spiritual passion and well-being. Accordingly, various activities, such as seminars, health checks and workshops have been organised to primarily facilitate team members and their families," Dunbar said.

Team building in the workplace significantly contributes towards employee motivation and building trust among the employees, thereby ensuring better productivity. Each participant, she said, would be required to write a letter to him/herself as a reminder of their commitment of achieving their goals.

"This letter will be mailed to them in June. Team members have also given each other permission to be held accountable to exhibiting behaviours that support their goals (for example, eating healthy meals). We will also continue the conversation and create an environment for continued discussion and sharing of ideas and successes," Dunbar said.

Dunbar added that it is recommended that these creations be placed on display in the home or office as a constant reminder of the set goal that will also allow family and team members to be aware of the goal(s) and support them accordingly.

This is the second year that the Vision Board Workshop is being held. After the success of the first workshop, JMMB decided to continue.

Kenny Brown, express transaction officer at JMMB, said of her experience in the first offering: "Creating my vision board helped me to have a constant reminder of my goals and to also change some of my habits such as poor eating practice, so that I could achieve these goals. I am a work in progress and I remain committed to achieving my other goals," Brown said.

The workshop is only offered to team members as part of JMMB's developmental programmes. Some 30 members from the Haughton Terrace, Knutsford, Portmore, Santa Cruz, and Ocho Rios offices participated.

The workshop was facilitated at the Kingston-based head office via a face-to-face presentation and online with team members off-site. Emprezz Golding, television producer, host and youth advocate, led the two-hour workshop.
