Do you remember the drought?
THE EDITOR, Sir:
Hey, remember recently when we had a severe drought across the island? Remember how citizens started to panic and everywhere you went, people were talking about the need for new and improved catchment areas? Remember how we criticised the government for its nonchalant attitude to the matter of expanding water storage across the island? Well, that drought is long gone and things have quieted down. As expected, it was all just another nine-day wonder. If, heaven forbid, this summer is to be another scorcher and we are hit with yet another extended drought, we will be right back at square one, even though we would have had a year to improve things. This, I think, is sad and it shows just how short-sighted and complacent we have become. How we continue to get by with this kind of attitude is beyond me and I pray that some day we will wake up and start to demand more.
