The Jamaica Medical Doctors Association (JMDA) says it is now prepared to take legal action against persons who assault their members.

The warning comes in the wake of a reported incident at the Linstead Hospital, in St Catherine, on Tuesday, in which a woman allegedly assaulted a female doctor.

A member of the JMDA executive, Dr Minzi Fitz-Henley,  says security personnel had to intervene to rescue the doctor from her attacker.

While not providing figures, Dr. Fitz-Henley says there have been numerous attacks against doctors in recent times.

She says despite numerous reports to the relevant authorities nothing has been done about it.

Dr. Fitz-Henley says the association is now seeking legal advice to determine what recourse is available to doctors who are attacked while performing their duties.
