Phase 2 of rural bus system launched in Clarendon
The government has launched Phase two of the Rural Safe School Transportation Service.
Addressing the launch in Clarendon yesterday Transport Minister, Dr Omar Davies, described the initiative as a landmark project to provide safe and affordable transportation for schools in the parish.
The project is supported by the Transport Authority, the Police, the Jamaica Urban Transit Company and the Clarendon Parish Council.
According to Dr Davies, the programme has had a huge impact on the lives of students who commute to the seven participating schools.
Three-thousand-five-hundred students now benefit from the programme.
Chairman of the Clarendon Parish Council, Mayor Scean Barnswell, said the programme has resulted in improvements in punctuality and attendance at participating schools.
