Report of abduction of Canadian woman was a hoax

A man has been taken into custody for creating public mischief after he reported that a Canadian woman had been abducted.

It was reported that the woman was taken away yesterday while travelling in a car in the Pembroke Hall area of St Andrew.

According to the reports, the woman was a passenger in a car being driven by a man when they were pounced on by an man armed with a gun.


However, the St Andrew South Police Division have confirmed that they have arrested a man after it was discovered that the abduction report he made was a hoax.

The Duhaney Park Police say about 8:30 yesterday morning, a man turned up at the station and reported that his female companion, who is a Canadian national, had been abducted.

They say subsequent investigations revealed that his report was false and he was taken into custody.

The police say his identity is being withheld pending further investigations.
