BPO sector has ability to fuel jobs - Shirley
President of the Port Authority of Jamaica (PAJ) Gordon Shirley is confident that the government’s goal of attaining 20,000 new jobs in the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sector can be achieved.
Shirley says his view is based on the collaboration he has seen across government ministries and what he describes as the seamless operations between public and private sector stakeholders.
He was speaking at the Montego Bay Free Zone’s 30th Anniversary Open Day ceremony in St James last week.
Shirley also had high praises for pioneers Tony Hart, Anthony Hylton and Noel Hylton.
He says their role in the development of the Montego Bay Freeport has evolved into the dynamism of the Montego Bay Free Zone.
The port authority president noted that Montego Bay continues to transform itself at a very fast rate and says it has no parallel within the region.
