No leads yet in stabbing death of 71-year-old Portland woman

The Portland police are yet to make a breakthrough in Saturday’s brutal murder of an senior citizen in the parish.

Meanwhile, residents of Cornwall Barracks, where the deceased, Valerina Whyte was murdered, are expressing shock and outrage at the incident.

Whyte was 71-years-old.

Reports are that about 7 p.m. Saturday, the woman, a farmer, went outside her home to attend to chickens.

Her husband, who was left inside the house, heard his wife screaming for help.

Whyte was later found with stab wounds to her neck and hand.

She was pronounced dead at hospital.

Her killing is the first in Portland for 2015.
