Youth Minister Lisa Hanna says there must be national dialogue before the country can make a decision on the issue of corporal punishment.

Hanna said while studies have been done on corporal punishment by other countries, it is important to look at the Jamaican experience before a concrete decision is made.

She made the remarks following a call from the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child for the Jamaican Government to pass a law to ban corporal punishment.

Hannah says she can't take a position on the matter before getting feedback from key stakeholders as well as Jamaicans on the street.

She was speaking at an Inter-Ministerial Working Group on Children recently.
