Portmore Municipal Council seeks to regularise illegal constructions
The Portmore Municipal Council has embarked on a drive to get persons who have illegally constructed buildings in the city to become regularised.
Acting mayor of Portmore Leon Thomas says as a first step, the council has sent out notices to owners who have erected structures without approval.
He says the municipal council has been updating its data with a view to regularising buildings and building plans.
The acting Portmore mayor says one area of concern in the municipality is Hellshire.
Thomas says checks have shown that there are no records of approval being granted for several buildings in the area.
He says the municipal council is seeking to address the problem in Hellshire and other communities.
The Acting Mayor declined to disclose what action will be taken against non-compliant individuals.
