The Government has embarked on an initiative to train a cadre of key civil servants in information security as part of efforts to boost the country’s resilience and response to cyber crimes.

The Technology Ministry says the training is being done with the assistance of the Organization of the American States.

The Ministry says the initiative is part of a wider effort to establish a Cyber Incident Response Team, which will see coordination points being set up within Government agencies.

It says a key role of the Response Team will be to issue timely alerts on emerging threats to ensure the integrity of systems that may be at risk.

The technology ministry points out that there are plans to implement a broad-based National Cyber Security Strategy.

It says the aim is to establish a national central point where incidents of cyber crimes are identified or reported which will allow a coordinated response to cyber-attacks or threats.
