St James Police enjoying success in war against criminals
Head of the St James Police, Superintendent Derrick Champagnie, is vowing that its initiative with the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) to rid the parish of criminals and criminality will be sustained in order to foster the conditions for peaceful habitation and sustained economic growth.
"Strategic deployment and sustained operation have been proving very beneficial for the division, more so in the past two weeks," said Champagnie, while noting some of the gains made in recent weeks, including the seizure of guns and ammunition and the arrest of wanted men.
Last Friday, one .45 semi-automatic pistol with model and serial numbers erased along with four .45 rounds of ammunition were seized in an operation in the volatile Salt Spring area of the parish.
This moved to 22 the number of illegal firearms, and 175 rounds the amount of ammunition seized by the police in St James since the start of this year.
"Additionally, a total of 15 wanted men have been captured by the security forces over the same period. These men were wanted for murder and other serious crimes," stated a release from the St James police.
Among those captured are Rohan Samuels otherwise called 'Damage' of Salt Spring, Michael 'Townist' Campbell also of Salt Spring, and Bobby Emmanuel Clarke, who also goes by the names 'Omar Miller' and Bob of Hendon, Norwood.
"It must be noted that Rayon Williams of Arcadia District, has been charged for the (March 5) murder of Nicola Luton and her two-year-old daughter, Saskia Mullings. Two other suspects in this case are being sought by the police for questioning," added the cops.
The suspects have been identified as Rohan 'Black' Thomas of Niagra and a man known to the police only as 'Buju', who frequents Arcadia and Green Pond in the parish.
As a part of their plans to curtail the opportunity for criminals to create further havoc, the police have made a decision not to grant permission for any entertainment events in problem-plagued communities such as Cambridge (Maize Land, Short Wood), Spring Mount (Garlands, Maroon Town, Arcadia), Mount Salem, Montego Hills, Norwood, Salt Spring and Quarrie, as well as Cottage and Meghie Top.
