The St Thomas Police have charged a man for allegedly having sex with Kayalicia Simpson - the 14-year-old girl who was chopped to death earlier this month.

Acting commander for the parish, Deputy Superintendent (DSP) Beresford Williams says the name of the accused cannot be released yet.

He did not provide a reason but names of accused in cases involving minors are not usually released.

The senior cop says the man was charged last night with three counts of having sexual intercourse with a person under the age of 16.

He says the police have evidence pointing to three different occasions on which the man is alleged to have had sex with Kayalicia.

The accused is to make his first court appearance next week Friday.

Meanwhile, DSP Williams says the police are still facing difficulties in the murder investigation.

According to him, it’s proving difficult to gather evidence to ascertain what exactly happened on the morning of March 3 when the student of Donald Quarrie High was attacked while preparing for school.

An autopsy has revealed that the 14-year-old was at least four months pregnant.

It is not clear if the man charged is the father.
