Mayor of Kingston Angella Brown Burke has reportedly visited Colorado to learn how that state has been operating under new ganja laws.

According to an NBC news report, Brown Burke toured a ganja farm to learn about the regulations of the industry.

Jamaica has approved legislation that effectively clears the way for the decriminalisation of small quantities of the drug, making possession of two ounces of marijuana a ticketable offence.

The legislation will also legalise the use of the drug for medical and religious purposes.

Yesterday news emerged that US president Barack Obama plans to visit to Jamaica next month.

And president of the Jamaica Manufacturers' Association Brian Pengelley says he would want Obama to comment on whether the US would welcome Jamaica's push to export medical marijuana to the large US market.
