Two arrested over multimillion-dollar seizure of fake Clarks, other brands
The police say two persons are to be charged with the seizure of fake brand name footwear reportedly worth millions of dollars during an operation at a wholesale in downtown Kingston.
The Counter Terrorism and Organized Crime Investigation Branch, which carried out the operation, says the persons are to be charged for breaches of the Trademark Copyright Act.
The police say several cases of fake Nike, Polo, Adidas, Puma, Vanz, Levi’s, Converse and Clarks shoes were seized at the wholesale located on Orange Street.
The operation by the police unit is part of a Caribbean initiative called ‘Operation Maya’.
Operation Maya is a series of simultaneous operations being carried out in the Caribbean, South America and North America to clamp down on counterfeiting.
Meanwhile, the police are appealing to the public to desist from purchasing counterfeit items as the money is being used to fund organized crime.
