The police say a man was taken into custody following the stabbing of a Police Constable and an eight-year-old boy in downtown Kingston yesterday.

It is reported that about 2 o’clock in the afternoon the boy was on his way home from school when he was attacked and stabbed by a man believed to be of unsound mind at the intersection of Duke and Sutton streets.

The lawman who was nearby went to the assistance of the boy and attempted to accost the mentally ill man when he too was stabbed.

A licensed firearm holder went to assist the officer, however, the attacker managed to escape.

The police say he was later apprehended and taken to the Bellevue Hospital for treatment.

The Policeman was treated and released and the child has been admitted in stable condition.
