Head of the West Kingston police division, Senior Superintendent Steve McGregor is being sent to take command of the St James police division as the force moves to give urgent attention to that crime hotspot.

In a release this afternoon Police Commissioner Dr Carl Williams announced that the Jamaica Constabulary Force will intensify the deployment of police officers to combat the recent upsurge in murders across the nation.

He says SSP McGregor is being sent to St James to strengthen command resilience in that division.

SSP Mcgregor says his first priority is to meet with the people of St James to get a better understanding of the problems they're facing.

Williams says he will be assisted by a strong team of investigators and proven crime fighters from the Corporate Area.

The announcement follows the killing of four persons, including one woman and a child, in one incident in St James and the murder of three men in Duhaney Park, St Andrew in another incident, over the last 48 hours.

Williams is promising that the full intelligence and investigative capacities of the force will be deployed to find the killers.
