Escaped prisoner on the run for over a year killed in confrontation with police

A 36-year-old man who escaped police custody more than a year ago has been shot dead by the police in a reported confrontation.

Damion Gray, otherwise called ‘Butch’, of Shelter Rock, St Catherine was killed this morning by police from Central Village, St Catherine.

Gray is reported to have escaped from the Spanish Town lock-up on Friday, April 12, 2013.

He was on charges of shooting with intent, receiving stolen property and assault at common law.

Gray was also implicated in the murders of Ryan Grant, Othneil Tulloch and Joslyn Bryce, all of St. Catherine addresses.

The police say about 4 o'clock this morning, cops were confronted during an intelligence-led operation in Central Village.

Gray, who was reportedly later found with gunshot wounds, was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

One .45 semi-automatic pistol with two rounds of ammunition was seized during the incident.

The police say the matter has been reported to the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM).
