Local Government Minister to meet with NSWMA board and outgoing director
Local Government Minister Noel Arscott is expected to meet today with the board of the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) and outgoing Executive Director, Jennifer Edwards.
Last week, the board decided not to renew Edwards’ contract saying that it is dissatisfied with her leadership and management of the agency.
The outgoing executive director hit back accusing board chairman, Steve Ashley, of unfairly meddling in the day to day running of the agency.
She also claimed that she is being used as a scapegoat arising from the public uproar over the massive fire at the Riverton disposal site.
However, Ashley has denied the claims.
Meanwhile, Opposition Spokesman on Local Government Desmond McKenzie is warning Arscott, not to interfere with the operations of the NSWMA board.
He is raising concerns about possible political interference following reports of today's meeting.
McKenzie says as a demonstration of good governance, Arscott should allow the board to work in the interest of the NSWMA and Jamaicans.
