Public passenger transport lobby group, the Jamaica Association of Transport Owners and Operators (JATOO) has written to the police commissioner asking him to reconsider his decision to transfer Senior Superintendent of Police Steve McGregor from West Kingston.

McGregor is set to be transferred to St James next month to combat crime in that parish.

JATOO says it is unhappy with the decision to transfer the senior crime fighter.

The association says since taking up command in West Kingston there has been a marked improvement in crime and violence in the area.

It says public passenger operators have also indicated that there has been an improvement in access and cooperation with the police.

JATOO says the association fears that there may be a setback of these gains, especially in the area of extortion, if SSP McGregor is removed from the division.

Earlier this week, residents of West Kingston took to the streets in the community to protest the decision to transfer SSP McGregor and demanded that the move be reconsidered.
