Vincent Ho-Sang is Tops
More than 300 New Yorkers showed up recently at the Glen Island Harbour Club in New Rochelle for the second annual Winter Gala and Awards ceremony. The event was hosted by the board of directors of the Mt Vernon Neighborhood Health Center Network.
This year's event's theme 'Touching Lives ... Lifting Spirits' celebrated three honourees. The Achievement Award honouree was a Jamaican, Vincent HoSang, OD, CEO of Caribbean Food Delights and vice-president of Royal Caribbean Bakery. HoSang is a hugely successful Chinese-Jamaican entrepreneur who started business with his wife, Jeanette, in 1978, and whose company is among the industry leaders of Caribbean, frozen foods within the United States.
Dr Guirlaine Agnant, a medical doctor, won the Community Service Award. Agnant is a pioneering obstetrics and gynaecology specialist who is president of the Women Medical Wellness of Westchester.
The Leadership Award honouree was Dr Andrew D. Racine, senior vice-president, chief medical officer and executive director of the Montefiore Medical Group, one of the leading hospital, groups in the United States.
"The event was a huge success," Myrna Merchant, event chair, told The Gleaner; "the honourees were remarkably outstanding and deserving," Merchant continued. The objective of the function is to raise needed funds to continue providing health-care services for the uninsured and the under-insured in the communities of Southern Westchester County, an area that is heavily populated by residents of Caribbean descent.
