Analyst: Holness must publicly bury the hatchet
Political commentator, Kevin O’Brien Chang, says Jamaica Labour Party Leader Andrew Holness, must move swiftly to publicly extend a hand to his detractors within the party if he is to continue in that position.
Yesterday, opposition members of parliament affirmed Holness as Leader of the Opposition, following a vote.
There have been calls for Holness to resign after both the Constitutional Court and the Court of Appeal ruled that he breached the constitution when he used undated, pre-signed resignation letters to remove two senators in 2013.
Opposition spokesman on justice Delroy Chuck also resigned the post calling for Holness to resign.
Chang says now that Holness has passed this hurdle he will have to make the first move to forgive and forget if he is ever to lead the JLP to victory at a national election:
Chang says those within the party who have been discontented with Holness must now recognise that he has the support of the majority and respect that.
