NEPA takes action against Wray & Nephew

The National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) has served the operators of Appleton Estate with a warning for the discharge of high-strength trade effluent or dunder in the area of North Elim River in St Elizabeth.

Wray & Nephew Limited is the operator of the Estate.

It has been ordered to immediately cease the activity and take measures to mitigate the impact of the discharge.

NEPA says on Saturday, it responded to reports from citizens and business entities regarding a pollution incident along the river.

It says the source of the pollution was traced to the Appleton Estate premises.

NEPA says its investigations are continuing and further action will be taken.
