NEPA warns Wray & Nephew over St Elizabeth pollution incident

The National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) has served Wray & Nephew Limited, with a warning for the discharge of high-strength trade effluent or dunder into the environment in the vicinity of the North Elim River in St Elizabeth.

The company operates the Appleton Estate in the parish.

According to NEPA there were several reports of a pollution incident along the river on Saturday, March 28.

NEPA says upon investigation the source was traced to the Appleton Estate premise.

The agency says investigations are continuing and further action will be taken.

And it says further updates will be provided as the investigations progress.

meanwhile, Wray & Nephew has been ordered to cease the activity immediately and take measures to mitigate the impact of the discharge.
