NSWMA does not have a functioning board - Arscott
Local Government Minister, Noel Arscott, says the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) does not have a functioning board.
He announced a short while ago that the board does not have a quorum.
And he says members have expressed unease about the manner in which the contract of former executive director Jennifer Edwards was not renewed.
Our news centre spoke with board chairman Steve Ashely this morning and he confirmed the resignation of three members from the 11-member board.
However, he said up to seven other resignations have been reported.
The board needs at least five members to be functional.
After the fire broke out at the Riverton City disposal site on March 11, a row developed between Edwards and the board chairman over her management.
At the time of the fire Edwards' contract was up for renewal.
However, she is contending that the decision to remove her was "arbitrary, oppressive, unlawful and unreasonable."
She has taken the issue to court.
A hearing is scheduled for tomorrow.
