NSWMA board chairman Steve Ashley resigns

Steve Ashley, the chairman of the board of the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) has resigned.

Ashley's resignation comes a day after the Local Government Minister, Noel Arscott criticised him for his handling of the removal of executive director, Jennifer Edwards.

Arscott said some board members expressed "unease" about the manner in which the non-renewal of the executive director's contract was managed in the midst of a major fire at the Riverton City dump.

Yesterday, the minister also said the NSWMA board did not have a quorum after the resignation of several members.
