The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) and the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) have launched a joint probe into this morning’s shooting death of a Police Constable in Hanover.

Constable Kemar Beckford was killed as he and an accomplice reportedly attempted to rob a business place in Hopewell district.

The Police High Command has confirmed that Beckford was attached to the Bethel Town Police Station and was on sick leave at the time of the incident.

The Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre understands that shortly after midnight patrons were at a bar operated by another member of the JCF when two masked men entered and announced a robbery.

It is reported that they were challenged by the proprietor of the bar and during the ensuing shooting Beckford was shot and killed.

The operator of the bar and a female employee were also injured during the shooting.
