UPDATE: Alleged cop-robber killed in Hanover was on sick leave, name released

Police investigators have revealed that the Police Constable who was shot and killed this morning as he and an accomplice reportedly attempted to rob a business place in Hanover is Kemar Beckford.

According to investigators, Constable Beckford was attached to the Bethel Town Police Station and was on sick leave at the time of the incident.

The Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre understands that shortly after midnight patrons were at a bar operated by another member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force when two masked men entered and announced a robbery.

It is reported that they were challenged by the proprietor of the bar and during the ensuing shootout Beckford was shot and killed.

The operator of the bar and a female employee were also injured during the shooting.

Investigators say a Glock pistol with nine rounds of ammunition was seized at the scene.

The Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre understands that the Independent Commission of Investigations has since launched a probe into the incident.
