Several people are being treated in hospital for serious injuries after a Coaster bus travelling from Kingston to Negril crashed in Duncans, Trelawny this afternoon.

The injured, which number about 16 people, were taken to the Falmouth hospital. Our Gleaner-Power 106 News correspondent reports that about eight of those have been transferred to the Cornwall Regional Hospital in St James.

Some of the injured are reported to have lost limbs, while others suffered broken bones.

Passengers who spoke with The Gleaner-Power 106 News say the incident occurred about 1:00 this afternoon. They say the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to flip on its side before ending up on its top along the North Coast Highway.

Loud music was reportedly being played in the bus at the time of the crash.

The driver, who had fled the scene of the crash, is now in the custody of the Duncan's police.
