High level probe launched into death of rogue cop

A high-level investigation, comprising three investigative entities, has been ordered into the shooting death of a 25-year-old police constable in Hopewell, Hanover.

The constable, Kemar Beckford, was attempting to rob patrons at a bar early yesterday morning, when he was fatally shot by another policeman.

According to reports, Beckford, who was wearing a mask, entered the bar armed with a gun and started to rob patrons.

He was reportedly challenged by the other policeman, who was a patron in the bar, and a shootout ensued.

A patron and the bartender were injured by bullets, while the cop, who challenged his rogue colleague, was reportedly grazed by two bullets.
Beckford was attached to the Bethel Town Police in Westmoreland.

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM), the Bureau of Special Investigations (BSI) and Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
