US President Barack Obama lands on Jamaican soil

Air Force One lands at the Norman Manley International Airport.

At 7:31 pm, Air Force One carrying United States President Barack Obama touched down at the Norman Manley International Airport for his much anticipated historic visit to Jamaica.

He was greeted by the US Ambassador to Jamaica Luis Moreno, Governor General Sir Patrick Allen, Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller and Opposition Leader Andrew Holness.

Within fifteen minutes he was whisked away in a Marine One helicopter to JDF headquarters

In his first visit to the island, Obama is here to hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller and meet with heads of state and government of CARICOM.

After a full day of activities tomorrow, the US president heads to Panama for the two-day sixth Summit of Americas.
