Ganja legalisation not a silver bullet - Obama
United States President Barack Obama has declared that legalising ganja is not a "silver bullet" for solving problems associated with the drug.
Responding to a question at a town hall meeting at the University of the West Indies this afternoon, regarding the legalization and decriminalisation of marijuana in Jamaica, Obama said there are serious considerations which must be given to such a move.
He questioned how governments which choose to relax laws in relation to ganja will deal with other drugs.
Meanwhile, Obama said although there appears to be many positive outcomes which could result from decriminalisation, a conversation must be held on possible repercussions:
Jamaica has passed a law to decriminalise the possession and cultivation of small quantities of ganja.
The law is now to be gazetted.
