Where was the early-morning Kingston blaze? ODPEM tells ... and what it reported to the Fire Brigade

The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) has released a statement on the fire at Westbrook Avenue in the Riverton City Community this morning.

ODPEM says while there is no fire at the Riverton City Disposal Site it is still advising persons that there is a likelihood of smoke spreading  within surrounding communities.

The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) is advising the Jamaica Fire Brigade (JFB) was called to respond to a fire at Westbrook Avenue in Riverton City Community this morning.

The JFB has confirmed that a stack of tyres that was being stored at the said location in the community was ablaze.

In a bid to ensure that the situation remains under control, six fire engines were deployed.

While there is no fire at the Riverton City Disposal Site, the ODPEM is still advising that there is a likelihood of smoke spread within surrounding communities.

Persons should take the necessary precautions to ensure their health and safety.
Tips for Protecting Yourself

 Avoid undue exposure to the smoke by closing windows and doors.

 Use a clean wet rag to cover your nose and mouth to minimize the effects of the smoke.

 The elderly, children and those with respiratory issues should pay particular attention not to expose themselves to the smoke.
